Forest Management
Certification

Crannraí provides a dual-certified forest management scheme for woodland and forest owners seeking recognised certification under FSC® and PEFC standards.

Certification Standards

Sustainable forest management balances environmental, social and economic responsibilities within one practical certification scheme.

Ireland's private dual-certified forest management scheme

Crannraí Group Certification Scheme offers owners a scheme to achieve internationally recognised forest management standards.

The scheme is certified to Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) national forest certification standards with annual compliance audits conducted by Soil Association Certification Ltd.

In undertaking the Crannraí Group Scheme, Crannraí commits to managing forest properties to the national forest certification standards with the intention to protect and maintain the ecological integrity of the forest in the long term, and to continuously improve the sustainable forest management system.

Members of the Crannraí Group Certification Scheme commit to adhering to the group rules and to conformance to the national certification standards through the relevant consent process. We can certify Woodlands and forests within the scheme evidencing management to high international social, economic and environmental standards.

Forest Management
Certification

Crannraí Group Certification Scheme provides forest owners with a pathway to meet internationally recognised forest management standards. However it’s not just about wood, there are benefits for present and future generations, and it follows national and European policies and forestry best practice.

Certification supports responsible long-term management

Certification helps verify to the end user that the forest is managed sustainably, balancing environmental, social and economic principles of sustainable forest management.

Other advantages include mitigation for climate change through carbon sequestration, increased biodiversity and a framework to engage with interested stakeholders.

The Group Certification Scheme is audited annually by an independent body, an Accreditation Body, who will audit the forest management unit and the systems in place to manage the group.

Scheme note

The certification label offers assurance to end users that the forest is managed sustainably and in line with recognised international standards.

Environmental Integrity

Sustainable certification supports biodiversity, responsible
stewardship and transparent management across the life of
the forest.

Consultation is part of forest management planning

The woodlands listed to the right of this page have been independently evaluated by an external body and have been awarded certification in Forest Management for both Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

An important part of both management planning and forest certification is that stakeholders are given the opportunity to comment on aspects of forest management, including assessing and maintaining High Conservation Values. This is undertaken as part of consultation on forest management planning. See also Integrated Forest Management and Stakeholder Engagement below.
